Once again you are spot on with you analysis. You pull this ame apart precsely. The lady in Grey is a good friend and as played couple 5.0 tournaments with her having lots of sucess and some great wins.
Thank for viewing and disecting our videos. More to come.😁
You're more than welcome. I'll check out others.
Once again, thank you for picking one of my videos!!
You're welcome.
Hey Rory, I am interested in playing tournaments. Do you have to play your age group? Or in other words, can I play with younger players?
You can play with younger players. You cannot sign up for age groups that are above your age.
...but if you never play better players you don't get better. Do the players you pick apart consent to your critique?
That's true. Thanks for watching.
3.25😊
Thanks for watching and than for your opinion.
If this isnt 3.5, than what is 3.5 supposed to look like?
Their dupr ratings are 5.0 4.5 4.9 5.0.
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Wow that is very interesting. I have friends who are playing 4.0 per DUPR ratings who play much stronger than these players. It seems like the ratings have changed over the years
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Whats odd is that i just watched a video that you had with womens doubles 4.0 and those women would have blown these guys away
I believe its 3.5. The dinks are good but they are not moving the opponent. Its almost as if the women are playing catch with each other instead of keep away. I would think that at the 4.0 level they would be moving
There was 60 teams in the bracket. These are the last two standings. This game finished at 12:00 midnight. They were playing all day long.
Unfortunately, if there are not enough entries in a particular age and/or level, the tournament director will often combine groupings so everyone can play. They divide it up for awards. This happened to me in my first tournament. I registered with my partner as 3.0, in the 60 plus age group, but there were only three entries in our grouping, so we played 35 year old 4.5 players…two different teams. We weren’t pickled, but it was close, and not very fun. We walked away with the silver. 🤷
It happens. Thanks for watching.
This is one of the better video analysis by You. I learned a lot.
Hope it helps. I do appreciate you watching.
@19:30 I had to laugh, I do that
Yep. Thanks for watching.
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 thanks for the video. If you have the background you should start incorporating technique analysis or more into your videos. Like serving styles and types, different shots, common things to work on, like volleying out of the air instead vs letting the ball bounce, advantages of better serving targets, when a dink should have been sped up or a firefight reset, etc
At best 3.0 .....barely recreational let alone in a tournament.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your opinion.
Fantastic analysis on this game! 🙌 I appreciate you commenting on the power vs control paddles. I see many 2.5 - 3.0 players using Gearbox pro and Joola Gen 3. Lower level skill players would be better off with a well-made control paddle. You are 💯 spot on with playing similar skill set. IMO, there is no fun in 2.9 level playing against 4.0. It makes for a miserable game.
I'm glad you agree! I have no idea why 2.5 and 3.0 players play with such powerful paddles. Thanks for watching.
Just a reminder the Gearbox Pro series also has a control paddle. It’s my primary paddle and works well for control players like myself
@@billpierce1788 👍🏻.
These guys could play with wood paddles and not be any better/worse
i just wonder why they constantly tap paddles together. that would drive me bonkers.
A lot of players do that. Thanks for watching.
I don't think I even caught that until I read your comment but it may be because in most of the places I play there are a lot of times that is done. I think it's just showing appreciation on a good play or to try to get someone past making a mistake.
I agree the players have a skill of 3.0 - 3.2.5 and that they make been forced to play a 4.0 skill game due not having enough registered players or already too many players have registered at the lower levels.
That happens. Thanks for watching.
That is tough, the pink & black team is 3.0, at best. It is very discouraging to be so out-played. Hopefully they recognize what they need to work on to improve 😊
3.0 near court maybe 3.5 in far court.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your opinion. How's pickleball in New Jersey?
It seems around here the most popular paddle for females is the black ace. Needless to say, you can let their balls fly out of the court.
Is it possible that the women in pink had to play up? Maybe there wasnt enough teams in the lower bracket
Maybe so. I have no idea. It does happen. Thanks for watching.
3.25 at best for the ladies in pink. Maybe 3.5 for the players in back court
Thanks for watching and thanks for your opinion.
This is what confuses my about the whole rating system
The rating system is flawed. You are only as good as the players you play against on a regular basis.
I’m half expecting to see a backflip inside forehand with a Marvel superhero fist smash landing.
If she tried that, she'd probably score a 10!
Rory, At 1:15, you notice the player in blue is side-slapping the ball and say that causes a side-spin (you are correct) then, a moment later you call call it back-spin. Back-spin and side-spin are different. You can return a ball with a back-spin by simply changing the angle of the paddle face. If the ball coming to you has enough pace, there is no need to swing or punch. Some players chop down to cause the back-spin but that is not necessary and usually doesn't end well.
Well, sorry if I got it mixed up. I guess I made a mistake. Your last sentence is very spot on. Thanks for watching.
This is what confuses me about the rating system. The woman in the light purple shorts almost never third shot drops. She drives the ball almost always. You can tell she is extremely fit and very muscular so she is using her power and not necessarily the techniques which are listed in what a 4.0 should be using.
True. Some people can get away with raw power because their opponents cannot handle it. Thanks.
How bad was the play in this tourney if this is a 3.5 mens Gold medal match?
Good question. I thought the play here would have been much, much better. Thanks for watching.
I can tell how enamored you are with the women in pink. But you really did not give any credit whatsoever to the other team. They didnt get pickled, they were not slaughtered. The team in pink had to work hard tomget their points. Give credit all around where it is due.
It's 4.0 level play. To be considered 4.0 level play, a player must be able to hit consistent third shot drops. I understand what you're saying. However, I don't think they are 4.0 level. We'll just have to disagree and that's okay. Thanks for watching.
Very good pickleball reviews on this channel. I am curious if the players being reviewed are able to take some nuggets of info from your videos.
Thanks for the nice compliment and thanks for watching. Yes, a number of players who I have picked apart have asked me to do more of their videos.
I really enjoyed this match , thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Also... Cliff is a big time table tennis player. Much of his technique is from his years of playing ping pong.
Yes. Both him and Mark Napartovich.
You are absolutely 100 % wrong. My hand sweats a LOT. Wearing a glove allows me to grip the paddle more easily. I tried both ways this past week. After playing without the glove the handle got wet and slippery. After I put the glove on I had full control and feel. It may not affect all players. There is definitely an advantage of wearing a glove for me.
Glad it works for you!
I am relatively new to the game. I have 4 months playing time stretched out over a year - spent too much time on the IR from a calf muscle tear a week after I discovered the game last year, and a sciatica problem 6 weeks after I started playing again last August (65 years old). I use an off brand paddle I purchased from Amuzon for $99. I am destroying people who use $250 paddle and who have all the appropriate fashion to go along with it. I would guess I am a strong 3.5 - I have no clue. I'm probably a 4.0 - as soon as I perfect the backhand flick. I didn't want to spend money without knowing much about the sport. However, I just ordered another 99 dollar paddle as it works very well for me. It's called Xspac XS I think. Don't judge by appearances.
Thanks for watching. Never heard of it. I pulled my calf muscle two weeks after I started playing. If you have time, travel to another city and play against people you've never played against before. You're only as good as the people you're playing against. So, if the people you continually crush are not very good, the question is, how good are you?
The play is consistent, but not any attacking play. Hitting soft may look impressive until someone hits a ball with some pace to draw an error. The ball is being hit so soft by both teams so less errors by both.
I get it, but, there were like 60 teams in the bracket. They had been playing all day. This match ended at midnight. So, give them some credit. Thanks for watching.
Thats a great point. That is why I believe that 3.5 is a proper rating for these teams
The double Lindy
Yes. Thanks for watching.
Another good game to watch. I think a 4.0 is probably right. Was going back and forth during play but not enough to go up or down from 4.0. Very entertaining.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
4.0 play in Minneapolis in the new expansion section at Lucky Shots. As I have mentioned, the play is pretty good around theTwin Cities, especially at the indoor PB facilities and these women represent that although I would guess a couple of them are over 4.0. Based on what I have seen on some other videos from other locations on this channel, where they list play at 3.5 or 4.0 or 4.5 -- it usually seems off to me. This video though, is similar to what I would expect for 3.75-4.25 open play around here.
Looks like Lucky shots has become a very nice facility. Thanks for watching.
Watching these ladies emphasizes how important the 3rd shot drop is for the serving team.
Absolutely. Thanks for watching.
Don't call missed returns "free points" some returns are very difficult. Maybe an error but they are not haphazard shots "to give it away"
All the served missed were very easily returnable serves. They should not be missed. So, it's a free point. Players at this level should be able to return just about any type of serve. We're just going to have to disagree. Thanks for watching.
Rory is very consistent with his critiques. If a serve goes out of bounds, “It’s a give-away”, “It’s a free point for the other team”, “You just can’t do that” ,etc If you miss the return of serve it’s just as bad. After that, a ball hit out of bounds or into the net is just an error. I can see his point with the serve as you should be able to keep it in 100% of the time.
I wish we had some female players of this caliber around here.
The winning team was really good. Thanks for watching.
every time
Thanks for watching.
@13:00 the near court players should be moving forward in phases depending on how their returns go, not just running hoping to make it all in one return. When the return crosses the net you stop moving or continue moving based off the 3rd shot height of impact.
If the third shot is not effective, do a split step in the middle of the court and hope to get the piss shot to drop in the kitchen.
Maybe by the time they got to the finals both teams were very tired and didn’t play their best…
They only played three games to get to the gold medal match. Couldn't have been that tired Thanks for watching.
Hello, is there a way to send you a video I’d like you to pick apart? (Namely: “Men’s Friday Championship - Game 2 - June 21, 2024”)
I found it and will be happy to do it. However, I am leaving town this week to play in a tournament. I'll try to get to it next week.
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 - fantastic and thank you! Best of luck with your tournament.
I am not this good at my advanced age but I noticed that when my opponent is hitting a lob, his chin is up, not down as in a typical drop shot.
I'll have to keep an out for that situation. Thanks for watching.
This match answers my Q: US Gold is only for those who buy the plane tickets to enter. These guys aren’t even good 3.5 players.
It can be a considerable expense. Thanks for watching.
I appreciate the commentary but I prefer to watch the entire point. too much pausing makes it difficult to remain involved in the point.
That was one of my earliest videos. I think I've gotten better since then. I'll do my best. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Oh yes, I've seen your other videos that are much better.
Terrible court, no room to move. Who made them?, quite bizarre!
No idea. Thanks for watching.
The player in red definitely sucks at ping pong too.
Maybe so. Thanks for watching.
I’m here to defend the losers. I was sent this clip because my son is one of the losers. Definitely not 4-0. He actually probably got drafted to this because he is a long term tennis player but I’m sure is unrated since he’s a newbie. Probably only the 5th or 6th time he has played. He does like it though. My tennis player brother has joined the pickleball cult. He and his wife are in this video. ruclips.net/video/-wE56jHxoqU/видео.htmlsi=5Qav_dluLmIZiU_G PS: I suspect my attorney loser son will improve and join the cult. The critique was good. I just know that one player is actually a beginner.
That's one of the problems with some videos that are posted on RUclips of people playing pickleball. Here's a beginner claiming in the title of the video he is a 4.0 player, when he is more like 3.0. For players who are just beginning, they will watch the video and think all of the players are 4.0 players when not all are. Glad he likes it and best of luck to him.
Very useful commentary. Having the names of the players on the screen would help me keep them straight and immediately know who you are referring to.
Thanks for the suggestion. That is very time consuming to do. I might consider it. Thanks for watching.
Looks a lot like my game! Maybe I am a 3.5? Maybe????
Maybe so! Thanks for watching.
A lot of head scratchers here. Way too inconsistent and far too many unforced errors to be 4.0. 3rd shot execution needs a total overhaul.
Thanks for watching! Thanks for your opinion.
